Domaine Goisot
Outside of the relatively unknown village of Saint-Bris, in Burgundy’s northern reaches, this wonderful father and son team has garnered a solid and well-deserved loyal following. This is a world-class domain that has undoubtedly been overlooked due to the annexation of Saint-Bris from the Chablis appellation. Unfortunately, the arrival of phylloxera in the late nineteenth century paralyzed the vines and the vignerons here and the decision for annexation was made for the overall good of Chablis. Whatever appellation law now says - Saint Bris now sits with the Côtes d’Auxerre appellation - the terroir very much mirrors that of Chablis with its deep Kimmeridgien limestone and northerly climates. Furthermore, the Goisots are also now free of the more stringent Chablisienne laws which has allowed them to work with Sauvignon Blanc, Aligote, Pinot Noir, as well as Chardonnay.
Despite not hailing from a greatly lauded appellation, the Goisot family have really shown their top vigneron stripes with Jean-Hughes converting the estate to biodynamics and thus rendering them one of the earliest adopters in all of Burgundy. The passion and ardour has been tirelessly carried on by his son Guillaume. They also have set their own standards for yields which come far below the Saint-Bris laws, which can be clearly witnessed in their wines that show concentration, depth and most importantly, their terroir.
The range is varied and diverse with Aligoté, Sauvignon Chardonnay and Pinot Noir all planted on unique and distinctive terroirs. They all offer tremendous value and we urge you to discover as many of these wines as possible!
